2019 School Camp

2019 School Camp

This years school camp was in Whangarei (Top Ten Holiday Park). We set up camp straight away, my group was done in about 10 minutes, so we put all our gear in set up beds, and then were forced to help others. We went to a lot of places from flip-out to the Poor Knights Marine Reserve.  Each house group team had a go at helping making the meals or cleaning up the meals.

This camp has been the most memorable of them all.

Huge thanks to our teachers and parent help.

My Holidays

Something Awesome that happened in my holidays was on a Sunday my Mum and I went to Maunganui for a Lions Club 8km run. We started at 10:00 sharp, I was in the lead for at least the first 2km's but then marathon runners caught up sped the rest of the way. In the end, I ended up coming 5th overall.

Something Scary that happened during my holidays was when I went to a friend's birthday, we went sea biscuiting, and when my friend and I fell off there were stingrays underneath us.

Something Relaxing that happened during my holidays was when my Mum and I were watching a TV show on the couch for hours just us.

Who invented Hieroglyphics?

Who invented Hieroglyphics?

Hieroglyphics were first discovered when Napoleon’ troops made the discovery in 1799 of the Rosetta Stone, Napoleon's troops provided the critical information which allowed Jean-François Champollion, taking into account the work of other scholars, to discover the nature of the script by the 1820s.

The ancient Egyptians believed that writing was created by the god Thoth; and called their hieroglyphic script "mdju netjer" (words of the gods). The word hieroglyph comes from the Greek hieros (sacred) also glyph (inscriptions) was first used by Clement of Alexandria.

Hieroglyphics were created around 3000 B.C, so roughly about 5,000 years ago. Hieroglyphics are the oldest known language along with Greek and Sumerian archaic, Hieroglyphs can be read from left to right, right to left as well as from top to bottom. Kings and queens names are placed inside a cartouche. In the hieroglyphic writing system, vowels are usually not written. If multiple symbols are be placed on top of each other on the same line, you read the top symbol first.

Newspaper Article

Newspaper Article

This week as part of our Literacy contract, we were given a task to write a newspaper article, including words that were written on the board (Grateful, bank, banknotes, disaster, helpers, honest, flurry, recovered). My group (Evan, Andrew) created a scene about a bank heist in 1869; it took a while to perfect, but in the end, it paid off. We created our own newspaper title (The Wild Weekly), we decided to go EXTRA and make the background like olden time paper.

If I was Prime Minister

If I was Prime Minister…

If I was Prime Minister, I would lower NZ’s diesel and petrol prices,
so that anyone is able to have a nice trip without paying up to $80.
Also, I would change the amount of plastic packaging we have on most of our food
because if we don’t, there will still be a lot of plastic/rubbish in general, floating
around
waiting for fish to eat it and then die.

Being Prime Minister would be challenging because having to make a decision that
only
the South Island wanted and/or needed would make the South Island happy,
but leave the North Island unhappy.

I think I would get my perks having the role of P.M because I’d get see a lot of cool
things,
as in kids who’d want be like me when they grow up, helping the community and\
much more.

I would deal with an unhappy country by, listening to them, responding not reacting
, and do as much as I can to help everyone in my country.

VOTE Kaden for P.M :)
